Fantastic Art Opening!

Berkeley's Expressions Gallery's opening reception for current exhibit This Land Is My Land was an amazing, magical and fun evening.  The gallery was packed so full with artists and their guests it was a challenge to get around.  The show is comprised of the works of sixty-one artists and an eclectic mix of mediums: oils, acrylics, collage, photography, watercolor and more.  I was honored to meet and speak with a number of interesting and very creative people.
No one was more surprised than myself to find my own entry, Woody Guthrie Collage, displayed in the gallery window!  And, the best surprise of all, was when gallery director Rinna Flohr invited me to join her up at the mike, with Greg on guitar back-up, in a rousing version of one of Woody's most famous songs, This Land Is Your Land.  Everyone in the gallery joined in on the chorus and I don't remember when I've had so much fun.
What better time to pay special tribute to Woody Guthrie, this year being the centennial year of his birth.  (Visit: woodyguthrie.org).
Thanks so much to my friends who came out to support me and my work and special thanks to Rinna for seeing "my vision" of the show's meaning, even though my work is not a landscape, the show's theme.  And special thanks for the sing-a-long, the most magical part of the evening.  I hope Woody was up there listening.

The show continues until June 1st.  Expressions Gallery is located at 2035 Ashby Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94703, and is open Wed,-Sat, 12-5 PM, Sunday 12-3 PM and by appointment.  For more information: expressionsgallery.org              510-644-4930
